Salman Khan, whose movies often mint over Rs.100 crore at the
Bollywood box office, says small-budget films deserve fair visibility in
theatres as big budget entertainers, as they too involve money and
passion.
"People
make small films with a lot of passion, they put their own money in it
and if these films are not supported, then they would never see the day
of light and hence, lot of money is lost," Salman said here Friday at
the music launch of the small fry "Khwaabb".
"For big films, this
is a very small amount but when somebody is putting in his own hard
earned money there, then it makes a lot of difference. There is passion,
hardwork and money."
"I think the small films should be given a fair chance to release and come in the theatres," he added.
The
48-year-old has earlier supported Vikas Bahl's "Chillar Party" and
released it under his banner Salman Khan Being Human Productions.
Besides this, he also lent his support to Nitin Kakkar's National Award winning film "Filmistaan".
Celebrated
scriptwriter Salim Khan kick started the TBD Legends series, organized
under the aegis of The Boss Dialogue on Sunday at Escobar, in Bandra.Right at the beginning he made it clear to the conductor Indu Mirani, "Koi bhi sawaal poocho magar ek sawaal math poochna ki Salman
shaadi kab raha hai. Iska jawaab toh Allah miya bhi nahin de sakte."
No sooner had he declared that the house broke in to uncontrollable
laughter.
In the course of the session when pushed to answer a
question on Salmans marriage he said, "Certain things are best left to
destiny." The veteran scriptwriter who co-wrote successful films like
Sholay, Seet Aur Geeta, Deewar, Zanjeer, Andaz among others with Javed
Akhtar was at his vocal best, answering host of questions on his life
and career. The septuagenarian writer also briefly touched upon a few
things essential to be a good film writer. Among other things he
lamented the fact that todays kids do not read much. He said, "What can I
say about others? My own kids dont read much. At times the newspaper
lies untouched outside their doors for three days."
The Boss
Dialogues (TBD) is a one of its kind, unique initiative that offers you a

started off on Sunday with the formidable Salim Khan, the screenwriter
responsible for some of the most memorable films in India.
There is Salman Khan the glamour king (read actor, television
presenter, model) and there is Salman Khan the philanthropist whose
whole pursuit in life is, just being human. For some he is the most
eligible bachelor in Bollywood today, for others he is bhai or Robinhood
Pandey and for yet others he remains pure enigma.
Ask
the artists on streets who he has taken to recording studios with him
or sniff around in the Mumbai circles for those who have been goaded and
groomed by him. His personality has a soft angelic soul gloved in a
beautiful body and reckless mind.The Maine Pyar Kiya actor
started his career as a lover boy and graduated to playing leading roles
in five consecutive blockbusters Dabangg, Ready, Bodyguard, Ek Tha
Tiger, and Dabangg 2 and many more.
In 2004, he was voted
seventh-best-looking man in the world and the best looking man in India
by People magazine, US. More recently, he has experimented with the
small screen in hosting 10 ka Dum and Bigg Boss that has given him
additional reach and fan base globally.
Khan has started an NGO
called Being Human which sells T-shirts and other merchandise, the
profits of which go to a worthy cause supporting the underprivileged. He
also launched a production company called SKBH Productions to fund
Being Human.
The trial in the 2002 hit-and-run case
involving actor Salman Khan did not begin today as the witnesses did not
appear in the sessions court.
The first three witnesses were slated to be examined today by the
prosecution. One of them is the owner of a laundry in suburban Bandra,
where the actor had run over his vehicle on people sleeping on the
footpath, while the other two are panch witnesses.
Prosecutor Jagannath Kenjalkar told the court that the laundry owner
could not appear as he had been paralysed. One of the five witnesses was
not traceable, while the other had gone to Bangalore.
The judge D W Deshpande adjourned the matter to April 8 when the
prosecution would examine another set of witnesses, who were injured in
the mishap.
Salman also did not come to the court as he has secured permanent
exemption from appearance. His lawyer Srikant Shivade was, however,
present.
Sessions judge D W Deshpande had ordered a fresh trial in this case.
Although the prosecution has given a list of 64 witnesses, it would not examine all of them, according to the public prosecutor.
The prosecution had earlier submitted documents such as death
certificate (of the person who was killed in the mishap) and injury
certificates (of those who were injured in this case).
The court had admitted these documents after Salman's lawyer submitted his say on admissibility of the documents.
Salman is facing the charge of running over his Toyota Land Cruiser on a
group of persons sleeping on a footpath outside a bakery in suburban
Bandra on September 28, 2002, killing one and injuring four others.
On December 5 last year, the court had ordered a fresh trial on the
ground that the witnesses had not been examined in the context of
aggravated charge of culpable homicide, which was invoked against the
actor midway through the proceedings.
The charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder attracts a
10-year sentence. The actor had earlier been tried by a magistrate for a
lesser offence of causing death by negligence, which entailed an
imprisonment of two years.
The case, dragging on for over a decade, had taken a twist earlier this
year when the magistrate, after examining 17 witnesses, held that the
charge of culpable homicide was made out against Salman and referred the
matter to a sessions court, as cases under this offence are tried by a
higher court.
MUMBA: A trial in the hit-and-run case involving actor Salman Khan
is expected to commence before a sessions court on Wednesday. The court
had earlier ordered for a fresh trial in the case. The new trial will
require that witnesses and evidence be examined again.
The
Bollywood superstar — who is accused of driving an SUV onto five
sleeping men in 2002 — had to face a fresh trial after prosecutors
succeeded in substituting the charge of 'causing death by negligence'
with the graver 'culpable homicide not amounting to murder'. The new
charge attracts a maximum penalty of 10 years' jail.
The trial
had commenced before the magistrate court in 2006. Over the years, the
prosecution had examined 17 out of 39 witnesses. Among them was the
complainant, police constable Ravindra Patil, who was assigned to
protect Khan after the actor complained of underworld threats.
The prosecution on Tuesday is likely to examine
the first witness in the retrial of the 13-year-old hit and run case,
which was registered against actor Salman Khan in 2002. The prosecution
was about to initiate the examination of witnesses on March 26, but
since they failed to turn up before the court the proceedings were
adjourned.
According to the prosecution, there were three witnesses which were
about to depose before the court. One of the important witnesses was a
bakery owner. According to the prosecution's case, Khan had allegedly
rammed his vehicle into a number of people who were sleeping on the
pavement in front of the bakery.
While seeking adjournment, the prosecution had informed the court
that the bakery owner was bed-ridden due to paralysis and the other two
witnesses had gone out of station.
The case dates back to September 2002, when the actor had allegedly
rammed his Toyota Land Cruiser into the pavement dwellers who were
sleeping on the pavement next to a bakery in Bandra. The accident killed
one and injured four others. The deceased was Noorulla Mahboob Sharif
and the injured were Abdul Rauf Shaikh, Kalim Mohammed Pathan and Munna
Malai Khan.
The case was first tried by the Bandra metropolitan magistrate court.
The court had already examined a few witnesses, which included the
statement of Khan's police bodyguard Ravindra Patil. Patil in his
statement had claimed to have warned Khan against rash driving.
A few years after the incident, Patil died of tuberculosis. However,
after examining other witnesses in the case, the prosecution had filed
an application, pleading the court to add an additional charge against
the actor.
Accordingly, after going through the evidence placed on record, the
Bandra metropolitan magistrate court had accepted the prosecution's plea
of enhancing the charges.
After enhancement of a new charge, the magistrate's court transferred
the case to the sessions court, as it only had the power to run the
trial then.
Khan's defence lawyer had challenged the magistrate court's order
before the sessions court. However, the sessions court had upheld the
magistrate court's order and slapped Khan with the new charge. Hence,
the court issued a retrial in the case.
That Salman Khan has won a million hearts across is only too
believable when crowds get restless waiting for Mr.Dabangg's releases in
2015.
According to reports, Salman will be playing double roles
in two of his films: Anees Bazmee's No Entry Mein Entry, and Sooraj
Barjatya's Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
In
fact, the last time he let his fans feast on such a double dhamaka was
back in 1997 in Judwaa. Apparently, he even said that he'd only do a
double role once Judwaa's sequel was in the makes. Turns out, he
couldn't wait, and his fans can't either.
Speaking of No Entry
Mein Entry and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, he's reportedly even had a word
with the respective directors to keep his looks in both films different.
But be that as it may, the filmmakers aren't breaking a sweat since
they claim their respective movie-making styles are quite different.
And
coming to scenes in the movie, Salman apparently fears that his fans
may have too much of him which is why he's also made this request: to
not be shown in each frame. We're sure his fans would disagree.
Considering
his last film Jai Ho tanked at the box office it's understandable that
Salman wants to measure his steps. Let's wait and see what 2015 has in
store.
